Crafted with Mountain Spring Water from Kami
Nakayu Sake Brewery was founded in 1906 in the town of Kami in Miyagi Prefecture. Located near the base of the Ou Mountain Range, Nakayu sources the water used in its production from an underground source containing medium-soft water to create its clean, gentle sake.
Nakayu uses locally-sourced rice as well as traditional handmade brewing techniques. They still wash the rice by hand, cook the rice using direct-fire Japanese pot steaming, and collect the water from a source about 6 kilometers from the brewery upstream near the Naruse River.

Heavenly Dream in Every Sip
The brand name Tenjo Mugen was derived about 50 years ago when the 3rd generation President went mountain climbing with friends and brought along a prototype sake to share at the summit. While watching the sea of clouds at the summit, they enjoyed the taste and aroma of the sake. Among the friends was a professional painter who commented, “It tastes like a dream or illusion in the heavens.” Tenjo Mugen translates as Heavenly Dream.

The brewery is now headed by 5th generation Representative Takafumi Nakajima.
