Kyohime Shuzo was founded in 1918 in the Fushimi District of Kyoto, a region well known for its high-quality underground water supply that yields elegant and mellow sake with a fine texture.
In 1997, in celebration of the 1200th anniversary of the founding of Heian-Kyo, the company name was changed to Kyohime Sake Brewery, combining “Kyo” (Kyoto) of Heian-Kyo and “Hime” (Princess) of the Deeply Secluded Princess.
